1. Where is Chesabar kennels located?

Chesabar Kennels are located about 45 miles from Philadelphia in Bridgeton, NJ. Bridgeton is a small city with a population of 35,000. Bridgeton is in Cumberland county and roughly half way between Philadelphia and Atlantic City.

2. How long has Chesabar been breeding champion Chesapeake Bay Retrievers?

Patsy Barber has been breeding champion dogs for since 1983.

3. How much does it cost to ship a Chesabar dog?

Air freight shipping costs to anywhere in the United States is about $175. Exact shipping cost is determined by weight of dog and container. Chesabar will supply a shipping crate with the understanding that you will return the crate. A crate can be returned via UPS for about $10.00. Dogs are insured for $1000-2000 depending upon length of the trip.

4. How does weather and temperature effect shipping a dog?

Shipping regulations for the airlines state that no puppy may be shipped if the temperature is lower than 32 degrees. Similarly, no puppy may be shipped if the temperature is above 85 degrees. Our breeder will make every effort to get a flight which fits the conditions of the puppy. We try to get a non-stop, no lay-over, flight whenever possible.

5. How much do females and males compare in size?

Generally, males are taller and weigh more than females. Most females stand between 21"-24" tall and weigh 65 to 72 pounds. Males stand between 24"-25" tall and weigh 75 to 95 pounds.

6. Do you recommend a female or a male?

Either makes a wonderful dog. Let your heart tell you what you want.

7. Is a male or female the best family dog?

Both male and female Chesabar dogs are excellent with children. Generally, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is protective of the environment in which they are raised. It is very important for all puppies to be socialized in order for them to become acquainted with their surroundings.

8. Can I visit Chesabar Kennels?

Of course! We would love to have you visit the Chesabar family. See the contact information below. We will gladly email or FAX directions to Chesabar.

9. What color are Chesabar dogs?

All of our dog are brown.

10. Do you recommend showing dogs purchased from Chesabar?

Patsy Barber answers this question like this: "Although I have been breeding and showing dogs for 18 years I don't push that you show dogs. If you have an interest in showing, or getting the dog's championship, I'm more than willing to help you show your dog to its championship."

11. Do you give a guarantee on your puppies?

A two year guarantee is given on all puppies sold for hips and eyes.

"The most important thing to the Chesabar family is that you love the dog and give it a good home."
